New York man dies in truck accident when tanker crushes truck cab

July 30th, 2013 • truck accidents

Sharing the road with a tractor-trailer is generally like sharing the road with any other vehicle. Courtesy and road safety go a long way in keeping everyone safe. Unfortunately, that doesn’t prevent the unexpected from happening -- such as a tanker truck falling off a transition ramp onto the highway below.

A New York man died recently when a tanker rolled off one highway onto another as the tanker driver maneuvered the connecting ramp between the two roads. The tanker flattened the cab of the man’s box truck and killed him.

The tanker truck driver also suffered several injuries, including broken bones and a dislocated hip. He told authorities that this was the third time he had made this drive that day.

Though there were witnesses to the truck accident itself, investigators are in the process of determining what happened seconds before as the tanker made the transition. Officials said they hoped that the tanker driver has a black box, which might contain information about the speed at which he was driving. Speeding distracted driving, and driving while sleepy frequently affect a driver’s ability, especially those who spend a large part of their day behind the wheel.

Though investigators are still trying to piece together the events that led up to the accident, this type of startling tragedy further demonstrates why it is important for loved ones to seek legal advice as a way to minimize their pain and suffering and to ensure they receive proper compensation for their loss.
