One man dead after New York accident

December 4th, 2013 • car accidents

One man was killed and another might be suffering from catastrophic injuries as the result of a New York car accident. The two men were stopped in the right lane of the road after they began to have car troubles. They exited the vehicle and moved to the front of the car to see if they could detect the problem. Another vehicle hit their car from behind and the first car was pushed into the men.

One man was sent over the guardrail and into the road below. He died at the scene of the accident. The second man suffered head trauma and was transported to the hospital for treatment. He was listed in critical condition, according to reports. Another passenger in the first car and the driver of the second car were also transported to the hospital with minor injuries. They are both in stable condition.

Law enforcement officials have not filed charges in regards to the accident at this time. The investigation is ongoing and charges could be forthcoming in the future. There was no information available as to whether officials believed that alcohol or drugs played a part in the incident. The speed of the second automobile at the time of the accident was not available either.

Although charges have not been filed in the case, the family of the man who was killed could consult a personal injury attorney to find out if they might be eligible for financial compensation. The attorney might be helpful in guiding the family through the legal issues related to filing a civil lawsuit. The law does not require anyone to be charged or convicted of a crime in order to file a suit. An attorney could help the family determine if they could receive money to cover hospital and funeral costs.
